Column & Stripe’s Social Hour: Connecting Cleveland’s Art Lovers, Artists & Creatives:

I recently joined the board of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s young profession group, Column & Stripe as chair of Membership Engagement with the Arts Community. The first big initiative to bring artists and art lovers together is the introduction of our monthly Social Hour.

If you’re anything like me, you know art isn’t just something you look at – it’s something you feel, connect with, and carry into your everyday life. That’s what makes Column & Stripe so important. As the young professionals group of the Cleveland Museum of Art, Column & Stripe is all about creating spaces where Cleveland’s art lovers, artists, makers, creators, and thinkers can come together and truly connect.

My goal as board chair is to strengthen the ties between Cleveland’s art community and the people who appreciate it, because art takes on new meaning when its shared, and when its shared, we form meaningful bonds… something our society desperately needs more of.

That’s why I’m thrilled to introduce our newest event, the Column & Stripe Social Hour. This monthly meet-up is designed as a casual yet energizing space for artists and art lovers to connect, unwind, and share ideas – all in some of Cleveland’s most unique spots, with each month featuring a new location. We’re kicking off our inaugural Social Hour on November 8, 2024, at City Goods in Ohio City from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. This month’s social hour will have a Cleveland-based photography community joining us called Forest City Collective formed by Matt Rutter. We know that meeting new people can be a little anxiety inducing, and the last thing we want is for attendees to miss out on having meaningful conversations, so we’re introducing a small activity to help break the ice… disposable cameras! Each person will have one an opportunity to take one photo and then pass the camera along to someone they don’t know. Column & Stripe will develop the film and bring the photos to the next social hour event for you to see and take home.

Whether you’re already deep into the Cleveland arts scene or just curious to explore it, this Social Hour is for you. Come out, meet new people, and be part of a community that values creativity, connection, and Cleveland’s thriving arts culture.

Column & Stripe has quickly become a big part of my journey, and I can’t wait to see where we’ll go with it. If you’re ready to dive deeper into Cleveland’s art world, support local artists, or simply meet others who share your love for art, I’d love for you to join us. This group is comprised of Cleveland’s best, come to the social hour and see for yourself.

Want to learn more? Check out Column & Stripe here and connect with us on Instagram for all the latest on what we’re up to. Looking forward to seeing you at the Social Hour!

That’s all for now.

Jason
